Question

Often I am holding in Uva L’tzion and the minyan will be about 20 seconds ahead of me and saying kaddish already. I get a bit anxious when I fall behind a minyan especially because now I say kaddish. Therefore I am trying to clarify the halacha about when, if at all, during kaddish I am allowed to quietly finish my Uva L’tzion. I know that between “amen yehei shmeih rabbah” and the following amen I should say nothing, but what about before and after? Is there any way I can finish my Uva L’Tzion l’chatchila or should I just cool my jets and answer the entire kaddish?

Answer

If you are pressed for time you can pick up again with Uva L’Tzion after the Shatz reaches “daamiran balma”.
